03/02/2017

I can hear the sizzle of newborn stars, and know anything of meaning,
of the fierce magic emerging here.

–Joy Harjo

February was a race through puddles that still managed to draw our gaze upward (Moonlight, new planets, moments of irrational sun). It was wasn’t all sky-gazing but we did shoot for the stratosphere. Here’s how:

All About the App

e0680898-9dc6-4cba-b44f-b165741d8078The new Mobile App launched last month, and it’s dedicated to helping writers and artists succeed. Use it to explore open calls, find new creative markets for your work, and save opportunities. You can also manage and filter your submissions, with easy access to all activity. Give it a try and let us know what you think – we’re always glad to hear from you.

The Conference Circuit

5bfaf3d8-a7bd-4025-a61e-7cd34d0d4b60We had a blast talking with so many of you at AWP in Washington, D.C., – what a gorgeous group of humans (plus one dog). If you had fun with our style contest, consider Gallery View for your own organization. This month, Submittable will be at the Grant Management Network’s annual conference in Hollywood, spreading the gospel. See you there maybe?

Discover Everything

If you use Submittable for your own submissions, check out our new Discover feature when you log in to view your personal submissions list.

It allows you to view upcoming deadlines and follow organizations, as well as sort opportunities by date, genre, and over 100 tags, ranging from science fiction to social justice. Want to include your organization’s call in this feature? In your organization’s account, go to Categories and click the name of the category you want included. Check the Promote checkbox on the General Settings tab.

Fellowship

48467cfc-f025-4bbd-a032-e09a6640666cThe Eliza So Finish-Your-Book Fellowship is a first-time-ever, soon-to-be-annual, way-outstanding opportunity. There’s no fee to apply, so review the guidelines, help us spread the word, and if you’re eligible, submit by March 15. We want to help you birth that book.

Panache for Publishers

On Thursday, March 9 at 2 PM EST, join us for a free webinar:
‘Successful Publishing with Submittable: Save Time, Money, and Your Sanity.’

Recommended feature: If your organization offers memberships or subscriptions, sells merchandise, or uses a Tip Jar, consider Add-on Payments. We’ve heard from lots of you that this feature dramatically increases revenue (tell us how it’s going anytime via support@submittable.com). Best part? Add-on Payments are free to use.

Blog-sphere

4ef58611-b096-4bbc-a10f-c3536c27ac77In February, the blog featured two guests: Emily-Jane Hills Orford discussed the potential awkwardness of party chat in ‘So, You’re a Writer?’ and Julie Vick riffed hilarious on ‘9 Alternatives to the Standard Form Rejection Letter.’
You’ll also find an interview with George Abbott of the Knight Foundation (which uses Submittable to administer arts and innovation grants), as well as a list of suggestions for standing behind the NEA and NEH.
Thank you for supporting Submittable. Our best to you and yours this March.
